We all know there are things in health care that need fixing

The real divide is about whether we trust government over the private sector to fix things.

Why do we not trust government? Because we do not trust government employees. Because government employees are notorious clock punchers. Because government employees tend to be poorly supervised and poorly motivated. Because incompetent government employees are almost impossible to fire. Think about the type of service you encountered the last time you went to the post office or the motor vehicle department. This is what the public thinks about regarding the possibility of government-administered health care. Most people have no idea what goes on inside the offices of the health insurance companies, but almost everyone can tell you a story about a bad experience in the office of a government agency. I think this is a big part of the fear of government involvement in health care.

With our government and health care, this issue is pretty sad...I definitely myself believe we need to reform it but for the better so all people have insurance coverage. I used to have it when I didn't need it but my belief is if you can afford it, then pay for it even if you never use it which is what I did when I was single, until one day I ended up in an emergency room, treated and released and was glad I had health insurance especially once I was diagnosed with a medical condition that drastically changed my life and dreams I had to let go. Now that I am divorced, I no longer have insurance, lost my job...no insurance, lost Medicaid after about 6 months by $6.04 over the income guideline for a family of two. My son fortunately is covered by his father's policy and has Medicaid because of a recent change in the health care system for children. I on the other hand who is sick and only has an income of 1056.04 a month with rent at $655.00 looking for a full time job, can not afford health insurance, can not even get it, individual policies automatically turned down since Epilepsy is one of the top 10 diseases/conditions turned down. The only way I will be able to afford and have insurance is through marriage or a job with group coverage that will take a pre-existing condition. It amazes me to see that people who really need health insurance are unable to get it as in my case for a small fee of less than $10.00 that is plain disgusting. So what to do? I go without medical care, if I need to get it, it takes month after month to a couple of years to save for one doctor visit. Is this keeping me healthy and proactive with no regular health care? No. I do what I can on my own, but reform is needed, it is figuring out how to make it work for everyone. The last time I heard there were 47 million Americans without insurance, this is staggering and is only going to get much worse. In regards to what goes on in health insurance companies, it is true most don't know...but I do and I am just as irritated by the little sneaky things that occur. Having government run health care, I do not trust...just look at Medicare and Medicaid. Just my two cents and each and every person is entitled to an opinion.

For myself, I believe we need medical care, we need doctors, nurses, medical assistants...without them where would the sick go? Just die?

Due to my own health...I had to give up my dream of becoming a doctor...I still want to be one..but at almost 42 yrs of age and a child off to college in 5 years it is too late. I still read everything on medical issues, health care, nutrition, fitness, wellness...that my own family calls me with medical questions and has nicknamed me Dr. Annie (which I love).

Blessings,

Annie
